The Palace of Justice in Turin, designed by the firm Zacchiroli, is located on an area previously occupied by barracks. It consists of two parallel buildings for courtrooms, offices and toilets. The entire complex has an above-ground volume of over 600,000 cubic meters, distributed over an area of more than 160,000 square meters. The functional design, the result of study and comparison work conducted with a special commission established at the Turin Judiciary, led to a clear distinction between the criminal and civil branches, housed in two distinct buildings. The large facades of the long sides, where glass surfaces prevail, are punctuated by the vertical bodies of the emergency stairs covered in exposed brick. The same material is generally used for the wall facings of the entire complex. On the short sides, there are the great hall to the east and a vast entrance space to the west. Total covered area: 160,000 m2. Total volume: 670,000 m3
