The “Montallese” viaduct was built for lot VIII of the New Rome-Florence Direct Line. This work is of great interest for the originality of the solution implemented and for the construction techniques used based on the “Ferrocemento” method of giant prefabrication of reinforced concrete decks.
The entire deck was built with a single prefabricated cellular section element weighing 5200 KN, manufactured, transported and launched in a single day. Considering the complex needs of a railway line programmed for the highest speed and potential, the solution implemented responds optimally to the problems of statics, durability and operation. The viaduct extends over 102 spans with a centre distance of 25 m between the piers, for a total length of 2,548 m between the abutment threads.
