The Allied Forces Southern Europe Regional Headquarters, called Afsouth 2000, occupies an area of approximately 330,000 m2, located in the main area of the Satellite Receiver in Lago Patria in the municipality of Giugliano in Campania (Naples).

The new complex, intended to house the operational and administrative offices of NATO in Naples, is a campus made up of 11 functional areas, with 8 newly built buildings. Among these the most relevant:

  • the main complex where the Afsouth headquarters and the subordinate main commands are located;
  • the community centre which brings together all the services to support the daily life of the staff and is organized on three floors above ground and a basement level;
  • the maintenance workshops, warehouse, and materials storage;
  • the building which includes the main access gate and a press conference centre;

The intervention is configured as an autonomous “citadel”, complete with community and support services, and is divided into homogeneous functional areas with different safety levels in relation to the degree of use required. It was conceived as an “intelligent building” and integrates a series of systems monitoring and regulation systems capable of ensuring operational economy and close surveillance of access and internal circulation.
