Officially inaugurated in the presence of King Abdullah II of Jordan in January 2017, the Kufranja Dam is located 70 km north-west of Amman and 30 km from the town of Jerash. The dam consists of a rock embankment covered upstream by a concrete slab with a minimum thickness of 20 centimetres to guarantee the seal, while the crest has a height of 80.5 meters and is 272 meters long. The contract for its construction was entered into in the second half of 2011 for a total amount of approximately €21 million, including electromechanical works as well as the construction of a diversion tunnel approximately 350 meters long and 5 meters in diameter.
